HOW MUCH SHOULD YOU SPEND ON A BACHELOR OR BACHELORETTE PARTY?

Being a company that plans Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties for groups, it’s in our best interest to tell you should take that downpayment you’ve been saving for your first home and put it towards the most epic weekend of your life…however, we’re going to (try to) be as objective as possible. But really, how much should you spend on a bachelor or bachelorette party?

First, here are the facts —- while women tend to spend their whole lives dreaming about the perfect wedding, men spend the same amount of time dreaming about the perfect bachelor party. Accordingly, men tend to spend more on their bachelor parties than women spend on their bachelorette parties. Men often want a weekend (or more) jam-packed with extreme (and often extremely expensive) activities, while women are often content with a relaxing day at the spa, a nice meal and a couple drinks.

So let’s talk numbers. Most of the stag parties we plan are a weekend long, and cost roughly $600 CAD/person. This is not including alcohol and accommodation in our case. So, we’ll estimate that their weekend is going to cost around $1000 CAD/person. Men don’t usually mind roughing (accommodation-wise) to afford more intense activities. As for bachelorette parties, they’re usually 1 full day + 1 night and will cost roughly $250-$500 CAD/person, not including accommodation or alcohol.

It’s definitely a good chunk of change, but it is, after all, a once-in-a-lifetime celebration for the stag or stagette. Everyone in related businesses will tell you that stag and stagette parties are becoming increasingly elaborate. You wouldn’t believe some of the requests we get!

A big problem with these elaborate parties is that not everyone has the same budget, and it’s 100% understandable. So here’s our advice.

How to Deal with Different Budgets for Bachelor & Bachelorette Parties:

Ultimately it’s all for the bachelor or bachelorette. Meaning that you shouldn’t sacrifice the Bachelor or Bachelorette’s enjoyment of the celebration because 1 or 2 people don’t have the budget.

But it’s not all or nothing! Meaning that if some of the group say that it’s too expensive for them, it doesn’t mean they have to not participate in the party at all. What we recommend, and what we do in situations like this, is we pinpoint the most costly activities and members can opt-out of these activities, or if there’s a big enough group of people who want to opt-out, we’ll organize a less costly activity for that segment of the group. Sure, it’s not ideal, but it’s a much better option that compromising the Bachelor or Bachelorette’s enjoyment of the celebration, or having some people not join in the party at all.

Sponsor a bud. The economy is tough these days, and some people are having a rough time making ends meet. It’s not uncommon that 1 or 2 of your party members may be currently out of work. Rather than abandoning them, give them a smaller chunk of the total cost of the party. Once it’s split between all the group members, you’ll barely notice it. And why are you doing this? For the Bachelor or Bachelorette, because you know that they would want him or her there! Our process allows you to attribute specific percentages of the total party cost to each party member. For example, if there is a 10 person bachelor party, rather than making each person responsible for 10% of the cost, you can specify that perhaps 1 person pays 5% and the other 9 people will pay 10.56%.

A Few Tips to Save Money on Your Bachelorette or Bachelor Party:

• Book everything far in advance (especially accommodation if applicable).
• Don’t waste too much money on an amazing penthouse suite if you’re not planning on spending much time in the hotel room anyways.
• Often the most cost-effective accommodation is a big house, chalet, villa for groups of 6 people+. That’s great, if you can find it, and if the owner is ok with a bachelorette or bachelor party staying at their place!
• If you’re planning to go to a strip club, great, but try not to do it completely wasted! We’ve seen individual guys spend upwards of $1000 for literally talking to dancers in a drunk stupor for a couple hours. Their time is not free, and when they see a bunch of drunken guys, you’re easy prey. Same applies for women!
• Try to leverage the fact that you’re a large group to get discounts.
• Be organized with the finances! We split up the cost into individual invoices, but if you’re doing this on your own, it’s often a good idea to get one (trustworthy) person to be in charge of all the finances, keeping track of the costs and being responsible for making sure that everyone has paid their share. Otherwise, and it’s happened to everyone before, some people (often the people organizing the bachelor or bachelorette party) are stuck paying a huge bill because no one ends up paying them back. Once the drinks start flowing, it’s easy to forget who paid for what!
